Jonathan Lake

Psychotherapy training, couples and relationship therapy, supervision and trauma consulting.

Welcome to my website.

I am a Certified Transactional Analyst (CTA), UKCP registered Psychotherapist, Tutor, Supervising Transactional Analyst (STA) and Couples and Relationships Therapist.

I have worked in the field for twenty-five years and I deliver training at different psychotherapy institutes in London and Brighton. I also provide support as a Critical Incident Responder for events such as terrorist attacks,  death in service and more recently supporting families in Israel and Palestine.

I love teaching and hope to do so in an engaging and informed way, to bring out our own wisdom from within through experiential exercises as well as more formal delivery of theory and best clinical practices.

Psychotherapy Training

I have worked as a teacher and trainer at different London institutes including Metanoia, TA East, Connexus, CPPD since 2014.

This year I am providing online training at The Link Centre, Sussex in trauma and critical incident response as well as relationships and couples work.

I train in Transactional Analysis, Humanistic and Integrative therapies, delivering the MSc trainings

Private training for therapists include couples and relationship therapy training, trauma training, critical incident training, finding meaning in mid-life, food and psychotherapy, working with neurodivergence and working at the edge.

Find out about my current training here.

Couples Therapy

I run psycho-educational groups for couples and polyamorous relationships as well as working individually since 2003.

The psycho-educational training includes:

  • Active listening skills
  • Open communication
  • Working with vulnerability and intimacy
  • General stages of relationship
  • Challenging symbioses and encouraging partners to encourage and flourish
  • Loving with radical honesty and acceptance

I have run training for psychotherapists working in this field since 2016.

Relationship Therapy

I have worked with polyamorous groups since 2005 and have been the clinical supervisor for London Friend and other LGBTQI+ groups.

I completed my original training in couples' therapy in 2003 and have been providing relationship training to psychotherapists since 2016.

Supervision and Consultancy

I currently work as Facebook and Meta's onsite psychotherapist (since 2016) and have been the clinical supervisor at London Friend (LGBTQIA+ support), Freedom From Torture and James' Place (for actively suicidal men) and other organisations in and around London.

I have been a consultant for the Home Office and Cabinet Office on Mental Health strategies and Employee Assistance Programs provisions.

I have managed two Employee Assistance Programs based in London.

I have worked as an on-site critical incident responder for over twenty years, working on national and international terrorist attacks, as well as traumatic events in London. I provide ongoing trauma support for the Royal Parks staff throughout London.

More recently I have acted as a Trauma Consultant and delivered staff training for the National Theatre and London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) amongst others to support them in putting up plays and events involving traumatic content.

“You created a warm, holding and playful space and were so clear in your presentation. I would love to work more with you.”

Portia Asquith, Metanoia Institute tutor

End of Life support

I worked as the Chief Executive of a cancer counselling charity in London and have since worked with bereavement and end of life support for patients, friends and family.

This has involved onsite work in hospitals and hospices as well as running group support.

Group support also includes NHS staff, frontline carers in hospices as well as work colleagues and wider family members.

“I wanted to reach out and thank you again for opening your home and for all your hospitality.  I got a lot of value from the course and if I'm honest has been the best CPD course I have attended.”
